One day, a father rode an electric bike carrying his son and brought back a "weighty" package - an admission letter from Xiamen University. Both father and son smiled, one with laughter, the other with calmness.

In November 2001, little Yuchen was born. Due to difficult childbirth, he suffered from hypoxia in the brain, planting a time bomb in his tiny body. His family took care of him meticulously, but they couldn't prevent the onslaught of misfortune. At the age of 7 months, Yuchen was diagnosed with "severe cerebral palsy."

The family became busy and frantic from then on. They traveled around the country with Yuchen, embarking on a long and arduous journey of treatment. Yuchen couldn't walk, so his father carried him wherever they went. Without playmates, his father became his best companion, entertaining him and teaching him how to stand and take steps bit by bit. To prevent further muscle atrophy and degeneration, Yuchen had to do hundreds of rehabilitation exercises every day—simple stretches and bends that required his utmost effort each time.

While other children of his age were running and playing to their heart's content, Yuchen could only do his daily rehabilitation training. His father wished for him to attend school like a normal child, but how could that be easy?

At the age of 8, the local primary school accepted Yuchen. It was his father who carried him into the classroom, allowing him to sit like other children. Initially, unable to walk or use the restroom independently, requiring constant supervision, every school day was incredibly challenging. Due to muscle atrophy, Yuchen's right hand was immobile, so he gritted his teeth and exercised his left hand repeatedly. Eventually, he not only became proficient with his left hand but also learned to write beautifully with it.

From first grade to seventh grade, it was his father who carried Yuchen into the classroom. He never stopped his rehabilitation training either. By eighth grade, with the assistance of teachers and classmates, he could walk into the classroom. By ninth grade, he could walk into the classroom by himself while holding onto the wall. Later on, he could even walk 100 meters without leaning on the wall!

Previously, due to the inconvenience of using the restroom, he tried to avoid drinking water and soup at school. With the consent of his classmates and parents, the school leadership specifically relocated his class from the third floor to the first floor near the restroom. This way, he could walk to the restroom by himself. As a child with severe cerebral palsy, facing such a difficult path of education, Yuchen and his parents could have chosen to give up, especially since every step was a hundred or a thousand times harder than usual. But his parents never considered giving up on him, and he never gave up on himself.

Fate kissed me with pain, but I responded with song! In the end, fate smiled upon this young man.

Yuchen's story has touched countless people after it spread on the internet. His indomitable spirit, not succumbing to fate, is something we all should learn from. However, behind Yuchen, his family, teachers, and classmates also deserve our deep respect. The support of his family gave him the greatest confidence.

Every parent knows how difficult it is to raise a child, let alone a child with severe cerebral palsy. Among the children with cerebral palsy who have been helped, there are many like Yuchen—such as Duo Duo, Han Han, Meng Meng, and Hao Hao—and many parents like Yuchen's father, who adhere to the creed of never abandoning or giving up. These children encounter various people and events on their path to seeking medical help. Some, like Yuchen's school teachers, offer warmth, while others look upon them with cold eyes. Cerebral palsy children are unfortunate; they need to exert greater effort than ordinary people to live. However, cerebral palsy is not incurable. With timely detection, active treatment, and perseverance in rehabilitation, many children with cerebral palsy can greatly improve and even regain their health. Therefore, if you are the parent of a child with cerebral palsy, please never give up on your child.
